Many of the ski courses in the Sierra Nevada have been individually designed by experts - people with years of experience and knowledge, coming from all over Europe and the Americas. The result is superb conditions for the skier. In total, there are 61 kilometres of slope in the Sierra Nevada region. There are 6 off-course trails, and a vertical drop of 1,300 meters. The slopes and snow types vary. It is ideal for both beginners and experts; its a good place to learn, or increase your skills. Sierra Nevada was chosen as the location for the World Alpine Ski Championships held in February 1996.
Ski lifts are available and open to the public from 9 till 4 daily and also on Friday and Saturday nights for floodlit skiing.
Total ski carrier capacity is an impressive 31,965 people per hour. In total there are 19 lifts: 5 ski lifts, 2 gondolas, and 12 chairlifts.
Night Skiing
Along with real snow, daylight is no longer necessary. Night skiing was introduced in 1994 and has become extremely popular. The El Rio slope and the Slalom Course are lit up enabling at least two more hours on the slopes.
Guaranteed snow:
In Pradollano, you will never be without snow. This is thanks to their state of the art snow making system (perhaps the resort's most notable feature). Even if it hasn't snowed for quite some time they can produce snow, and skiing can go on as usual.
They have invested considerably in the system and it is said to be one of Europe’s best. It can produce an impressive 1,940 cubic meters of snow per hour.
Snow conditions will always vary and change, depending on many things. Pradollano’s ability to provide guaranteed, consistent snow has made it a popular ski destination for skiers from all over the world.
It must also be noted that producing artificial snow, and using snow additives can have various ecological consequences. These are increasingly becoming the subject of environmental concerns.

Safety:
In order to keep accidents to a minimum, all the slopes are carefully examined by trained staff before any members of the public are allowed access.
In the event of an accident, snowmobiles are used to get to the injured person as soon as possible. All members are trained in first aid.
In the event of an emergency, you can contact the ski crew at the skier information centre. It is located in Borreguiles in the control tower (Torre de Control). |
