Sierra Nevada is the perfect destination to enjoy the snow and stunning landscapes, as well as the large number of picturesque villages that are dotted around the region: village such as Cenes de la Vega, Guejar Sierra, Pinos Genil or Monachil.
In an area of outstanding natural beauty, and away from the ski slopes, a route around the villages of Sierra Nevada is well worth contemplating. With several horse, bike and hiking routes that link up the villages, there no shortage of ways to get around. And if fishing is one of your favourite pastimes, bring your rod down to the Pantano de Canales resevoir.
The market town of Cadiar, Juviles with its 10th century muslim castle, the white village of Trevelez, which at 1500 metres altitude is the highest village in Spain, the Roman paths through La Taha whilst exploring the collection of Moorish villages hidden in the deep gorge: theres much to see and do around the villages of the Sierra Nevada.
Cenes de la Vega, situated only 5km from Granada offers a Moorish necropolis, whilst set within the slopes of the Sierra Nevada you will find the scenic village of Monachil.
Many climbers, ready to tackle the highest peak on the Iberian peninsula (Mulhacen at 3481 metres) choose to stay in the picturesque village of Capileira, a haven of hostels, hotels, bars and restaurants set within the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
