From Sierra Nevada´s National Park and its Biosphere Reserve, we come to the Ragua Park at 1900 meters of altitude that has become a refuge to numerous flora species (66 to be exact according to the Ministry of the Environment), which makes it the most biodiverse place in all of the Iberian Peninsula.

This environment is protected by the Botanical Garden of La Cortijuela, which is located at 1600 meters of altitude. There are also about 80 animal species living in the area.

The vegetation of Sierra Nevada´s National Park can be divided into four categories: Lower mountain vegetation, vegetation from 800-1300 meters of altitude, middle mountain vegetation up to 2000 meters, and that of the high mountain up to 3480 meters.

The mountain goat is a prominent figure amongst the fauna living in the Sierra Nevada. Some other of the 80 species of animals living here are both vertebrates and invertibrates, birds, rattlesnakes, owls, salamanders, etc.

These species are throughout the park, and can be observed in such places as La Laguna del Caballo, Laguna de Calderetas, Laguna de Lanjaron, and the Aguas Verdes.
