The climate in the Sierra Nevada, besides being a ski resort, and being covered in white snow, is mild and the cold isn't too extreme. In fact, the Sierra Nevada is one of the few places in the world where you can go skiing in a short-sleeve shirt in the springtime! The Sierra Nevada has a maximum temperature in July and August of 20 celsius. The minimum during this time frame is between 11 and 12 celsius. In autumn and spring, the temperatures are quite mild. In winter, the maximum temperature barely gets above 0 celsius, and the minimum can reach -10 below zero.
The medium anual temperature of the Sierra Nevada is 4 celsius. February is the coldest month with a medium of -5 Cº below zero, and July is the warmest with a medium temperature of 17 Cº.
Precipitation in the Sierra Nevada usually takes the form of snow, and there's a lot of it between the months of November and February, with some 90 litres per square metre. In the summer, rain is almost nonexistent. Annual rainfall is somewhere around 700 litres per square metre, with December being the rainiest month of all (93.1 sq. metres).
These temperatures also have a negative role to play. With so little rain, it makes for a pretty short ski season. The ski resort usually opens its doors in the month of December and, with luck, can keep them open only until the end of April. |
