The main village is actually called Pradollano, although many people refer to it as the Sierra Nevada resort or just...Sierra Nevada. Pradollano is also known as Sol y Nieve which simply means sun and snow. This village has everything a visitor or holiday maker could possibly need for a comfortable stay. Banks with cash dispensers, supermarkets, pharmacy, sports & fashion boutiques, ski rental, photo-developing services, car rental, taxi service etc. It also has numerous bars, nightclubs and discotheques.
As you approach the resort, the temperature drops, the road narrows and sometimes it can get icy.
Also, visitors should take note that there are often traffic jams at the entrance to the village, especially during peak periods.
These can be frustrating, but once you get into Pradollano, you'll find that everything is right at your fingertips... hotels, restaurants, bars nightclubs etc. The main plaza is where all the action is.
From here, you often find spectacular views from the many bars on the way to the peak clean white snow and polar blue skies; ideal for photography (both amateur and professional).
Off-season, you can still enjoy clean fresh air and dramatic scenery, but with less crowds and more space. This is a good time to go hill walking along the many routes the areas has.
Pradollano's location and landscape, right in the heart of the Sierra Nevada, along with its numerous facilities such as hotels, apartments, shops, banks etc, have made it a popular year-round destination.
In winter, skiing and snowboarding are extremely popular in the Sierra Nevada; whereas in summer, (when the snow melts) people pursue other outdoor activities like horse riding, hiking and mountain biking etc... |
